Description
Who this machine is for and what it settles
The Karcher K1700, carried under the model code 1.106-109.0, is a mid range household electric pressure washer built around convenience features rather than raw output. Karcher publishes a maximum of 2125 PSI, an upright chassis measuring 17.25 by 16.5 by 33 inches, never flat wheels, a removable detergent tank, an integrated storage container on the back for the gun, hose and wand, a cord wrap on the handle, and tool free assembly. The decision it settles is whether you want a machine that stores itself tidily and rolls across a lawn without a flat tire.
The foot switch is the feature most likely to matter day to day. Power is controlled by tapping a pedal rather than reaching for a switch on the body, while water flow stays on the trigger gun. On a job where the machine is turned off and on repeatedly, that saves a great deal of bending. Karcher rates the unit at 20.7 pounds, which is in the same class as most of the electric pressure washers we cover, though the upright frame is taller than the compact designs.
The specifications that matter, and the two that disagree
Cleaning power is pressure and flow together. Karcher publishes 2125 maximum PSI, which appears consistently in the title, the description, the feature bullets and the specification block. The flow figure does not behave the same way. The title states 1.46 maximum GPM. The description states a maximum GPM of 1.46. A feature bullet states 1.46 max GPM twice, once for the machine and once for the soap nozzle. The maximum flow rate field in the specification block says 1.2 gallons per minute.
That is a meaningful gap on the number that governs rinse speed, and it appears in the field most comparison tools read. We are naming both figures rather than selecting one. If flow matters for your job, confirm it with Karcher before ordering rather than assuming the higher value.
The hose length disagrees as well. The specification block and the attribute data both say 20 feet, while Karcher’s own description lists the contents of the box as including an M22 18 foot pressure washer hose. Two feet is not a large difference in practice, but it means the listing does not agree with itself on what is in the carton.
Three nozzles, and what each is for
The K1700 ships with three quick connect nozzles rather than the five tip sets common at this price. A 15 degree nozzle is the general purpose tip for most surfaces. A turbo nozzle rotates a narrow jet in a cone, which Karcher describes as more efficient than a standard red nozzle, and it is the aggressive option for concrete and masonry. A 65 degree soap nozzle drops the pressure so detergent can be applied from the removable half gallon tank.
What is missing from that set is a wide angle rinse tip in the 40 degree range. On siding, painted trim, vehicle paint and softwood decking, 15 degrees is narrower than ideal, and the only remaining control is standing further back. High pressure water strips paint, etches wood and forces moisture behind cladding, so test on an inconspicuous area and keep the spray angled downward on walls rather than driving water upward under the siding.
Using it correctly
Assembly is stated as tool free, and the kit includes an adapter for a three quarter inch garden hose so the supply side connects without extra parts. Fit the nozzle before pulling the trigger, and confirm the quick connect collar has snapped fully forward, because a partially seated tip can release under pressure. After shutting the machine down, squeeze the trigger to bleed the pressure trapped in the hose before disconnecting anything.
The safety rules are the same for every machine in this category regardless of rating. A pressure washer jet can force water and surface contaminants through skin, and an injection injury requires immediate medical attention even when the entry wound looks small. Never aim the wand at a person or an animal, never test the spray on your hand, and wear eye protection because grit blasted off a surface comes back toward the operator faster than it left the tip.
Limits and gaps in the published data
The electrical picture is incomplete. The specification met field lists CSA, which is a safety certification rather than a performance rating, and the power source field says Electric. Nowhere does the listing publish the motor wattage, the amperage draw, the required circuit rating, whether a GFCI protected outlet is required, or the length of the power cord. The description mentions a cord wrap and a place to store the plug without ever saying how long the cord is. Extension cord use is commonly restricted by manufacturers of electric pressure washers, and that is not addressed either.
Also unpublished: the maximum inlet water temperature, the required supply pressure and flow, and the pump type. One field is simply meaningless. The department field reads Unisex Adult, which is apparel taxonomy that has no bearing on a pressure washer. Country of origin is given as China while the brand is German, the model number is 1.106-109.0, and the UPC is 886622019831. Amazon showed a rating of 4.3 out of 5 across 8,524 ratings at capture, with a rank of 1,627th in Patio, Lawn and Garden and 13th in pressure washers. Rank reflects sales volume only.
Alternatives worth comparing
Moving up in the same brand, the Karcher K5 Premium review covers a heavier unit with more output. Staying at this level, the Sun Joe SPX3000 review adds a five tip set and dual detergent tanks, and the CRAFTSMAN CMEPW1700 review covers a lighter machine whose listing carries a similar flow rate discrepancy.
For flat concrete, adding the Karcher surface cleaner review to a machine at this level does more for the result than upgrading the machine, provided the flow rate is sufficient to spin the bar. On connections, note that the description specifies an M22 hose, and our Twinkle Star adapter set review covers why the 14 mm and 15 mm variants of that fitting are not interchangeable.
Who should buy it and who should not
Buy it if you want tidy onboard storage, never flat wheels and a foot switch, and your work is cars, patios, fencing and decks. Do not buy it assuming 1.46 GPM without confirming it against the 1.2 GPM in the specification block. Do not expect a wide angle rinse tip in the box, and do not expect the listing to tell you the amperage or the cord length. Both belong in the manual and should be checked before the first use.
